Wesley College Colombo and Seethadevi Balika MV Kandy emerged champions at the All Island Inter-School Under 17 Hockey Championships that was played recently in Colombo.
The championship was conducted by the Sri Lanka School Hockey Association. It was the victory of Wesley College that stole the limelight as this was the first time in the school hockey history they were able to win the championship. Incidentally it was after a lapse of 31 years they were able to win a championship title in an inter-school championship. Nalanda College Colombo became the runner up while St. Thomas’ College Matale won the second runner up award.
It was notable that schools from Kandy had dominated the girls’ segment by sweeping the board. Seethadevi Balika MV emerged champions while Pushpadana Balika Vidyalaya and St. Anthony’s Balika Vidyalaya Katugastota won the runner up and the second runner up awards respectively.
Best player of the boys’ category was Emad Musamil of Wesley College while Chaturika Ekanayake of Pushpadana Balika MV was picked up as the best player of the girls’ category.
The award ceremony of the championship was held at Royal College Colombo with the participation of Sumith Edirisinghe as the chief guest who is the President of Sri Lanka Hockey Federation.
